Fire in Tanygrisiau

Posted

Firefighters remain in attendance at a wildfire in Tanygrisau, Gwynedd.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident at 12.12hrs this afternoon (Sunday 27.3.22).

A total of 10 fire appliances, one narrow access unit, and one incident command unit are in attendance.

Officers are currently tackling the blaze in the Moel Ystradau area nearby.

Area Manager Paul Scott said: “We are likely to remain in attendance at this incident for some time.

“We are advising people to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors shut if you are affected by the presence of smoke.

“Our crews are working extremely hard in difficult conditions to control the spread of the fire.

“This is the latest in a spate of major wildfires we have attended this week which is a huge drain on our resources.

“I cannot emphasise enough how important it is for anyone considering a controlled burn to have a burn plan in place and to inform us beforehand of the time, date and location of the burn.

“Even more important at the moment is to consider whether a controlled burn is strictly necessary, because there are significant risks involved - particularly when the weather is so dry.

“Disappointingly there are some people within our communities who are deliberately setting fire to our countryside – not only is this a crime, for which they will be prosecuted, but it also places unnecessary pressure on front line services and puts our communities in harm’s way.

“Remember - If are out enjoying the countryside and you do come across any suspicious activity, please call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or ring 101. In an emergency, always call 999.”
