Service highlights support available for businesses

Posted

Following on from UK Business Safety Week last week, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is highlighting to local businesses the support available and emphasising the importance of checking the credentials of those looking to visit their premises to assist in carrying out fire risk assessments.

Paul Jenkinson, Head of Business Fire Safety, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said:

“If you are a business owner or responsible for a business premises the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order means legally you must reduce the risk of fire and make sure people can safely escape in the event of a fire.

“To help do this, it is required to carry out a fire risk assessment. Here at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, we can offer advice to businesses on how they should carry out a fire risk assessment of their property – this may involve a visit to the business premises.

“We will always insist that the business owner / manager is present during any visit, and will always carry I.D.

“Should you have any concerns about the legitimacy of the individuals contacting you regarding fire risk assessments, please contact your local trading standards department at the earliest opportunity.”
