Celebrate Wrexham’s new ambulance and fire station at community open day

Posted

WREXHAM’S emergency services are inviting the public to help them celebrate the town’s new Ambulance and Fire Services Resource Centre (AFSRC).

The Welsh Ambulance Service and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are hosting an open day on Saturday 1 October from 11am until 3pm at the AFSRC on Croesnewydd Road.

Visitors will get a sneak peek inside an ambulance and a fire engine and witness how crews work together to rescue casualties in a mock road traffic accident.

There will also be first aid demonstrations, activities and games plus an opportunity to support Wrexham’s Community First Responders, the Fire Cadets and the Wales Air Ambulance.

North Wales Police colleagues will also be demonstrating how they keep our neighbourhoods safe.

Visitors will be able to park behind Wrexham Maelor Hospital, on the car park on the former railway line.

This can be reached by entering the hospital grounds through Gate 1 (by the main hospital entrance) and driving straight ahead until the driveway bears to the left to go behind the hospital.

At this point drivers should turn right to access the parking area, which is close to the AFSRC and which can be reached via a footpath.

Signs and parking marshals will be in place to help guide drivers to the correct parking location.

More than £15 million has been in the new facility which was formally opened yesterday (Thursday 22 September 2016) by the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Well-being and Sport, Vaughan Gething AM, and Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children, Carl Sargeant AM.

The purpose-built centre, which is the first of its kind in Wales, boasts an eight-bay fire station, a six-bay ambulance station, a make ready facility and fleet workshop plus ultramodern training facilities.

The AFSRC has replaced the former fire station on Bradley Road in Wrexham and the former ambulance stations in Chirk and Wrexham.
