Spate of fires prompts safety warning

Posted

Firefighters are urging people to stop and think about the consequences of deliberate fires following a spate of incidents in a property on the Spencer Trading Estate, Denbigh which have tied up valuable resources.

Crews were called to fires at a recycling depot on the 10th May, 10th June and again this morning (12th June). The incident on the 10th June tied up resources for fifteen hours. All three incidents were started deliberately.

Kevin Jones, Arson Reduction Manager, said: "It was disheartening to find that these incidents had been ignited deliberately.

"Deliberate fires place tremendous pressure on resources, with our crews tied up for a considerable length of time trying to bring them under control, which in turn delays firefighters from attending life threatening incidents.

"We may not be able to get to a fire where a person is trapped as quickly or as easily as we would like because we have to deal with a deliberate fire."

Setting fires is a criminal offence and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is actively working alongside North Wales Police to combat deliberate incidents.
