Posted

Firefighters are still in attendance at a fire in a fuel station on the A5025 in Pentraeth, Anglesey. The initial call was received at 04.03am this mornin (Friday 3rd April).

Appliances from Menai Bridge, Llangefni, Beaumaris and two from Bangor as well as the aerial ladder platforms from Bangor and Rhyl, the incident command unit from Rhyl and a water carrier from Caernarfon are in attendance at the incident.

Firefighters have been tackling the fire using breathing apparatus, main water jets, hose reel water jets and ground monitors. The Nant y Felin Estate has been evacuated and residents have been taken to the primary school in Pentraeth.

The A5025 is closed in Pentraeth and the public are asked to avoid the area.

Crews are currently damping down the scene and will continue to do so for at least a further three to four hours.

The evacuation and road closure remains in place until further notice.

Gary Brandrick, Senior Fire Safety Manager said: "The priority has been to contain the fire;

"Our firefighters concentrated on keeping the fire contained, especially given the
close proximity of other premises, and worked tirelessly to ensure that the fire
did not spread onto the petrol pumps.

"Once we've extinguished the fire fully we will commence a joint investigation in collaboration with North Wales Police to determine the exact cause of the incident."
