Two young school pupils from Bangor have been presented with prizes after winning a poster competition organised by the North Wales Arson Reduction Team to tackle grass arson and deliberate firesetting.

Year 5 pupils Kacey Louise Roberts from Ysgol Glancegin and Ellis Carr from Ysgol Cae Top each received an iPod Shuffle after their poster entries, warning against the consequences of deliberate grass fires, were judged to be joint winners.

Primary Schools inBangorand Blaenau Ffestiniog were invited to take part in the competition following the Arson Reduction Team's Easter campaign to reduce the number of grass fires in these areas.

Lynne Jones, Arson Reduction Officer said: "Firstly, I'd like to congratulate Ellis and Kacey on coming top in our competition - the posters were really effective and they had clearly thought about the dangers and the consequences of deliberate grass fires.

"We launched the poster competition and the Easter campaign in Bangor and Blaenau as these two areas suffered from the most deliberate grass fires over the Easter period last year. We hope that by getting these youngsters to think about the dangers and aftermath of deliberate fire setting at a young age, our messages will really be hitting home.

"By getting the community involved in our campaign we are hoping that everyone will realise the consequences of deliberate fires and that when crews are attending these fires they could be needed for life saving at other incidents in the area."
